Factors of selecting a Goal Weight in Female Obese Patients

Abstract
Purpose: There are many factors that patients establish a goal weight before weight loss treatment. But little is known about how these factors affect selecting a goal weight. The aim of this study was to evaluate the patient¡¯s ratings of factors important in establishing a goal weight and effect of rating of factors on goal weight reduction (%) and goal BMI (body mass index).

Methods: A total of 112 female obese subjects, aged ¡Ã 20 and < 60 from one clinic participated in this study. Patients¡¯ goal weight and ratings of factors important in establishing a goal weight were evaluated. Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed to evaluate effect of ratings of factors on goal weight reduction (%) and goal BMI.

Results: Mean BMI of subjects was 28.4¡¾3.2 kg/m2. Goal weight averaged a 21.8% reduction in body weight. Patients rated physical and daily life comfort as the most important factors in selecting a goal weight. In univariate regression analysis, ratings of physical and daily life comfort, work efficiency, specific body measurement were effect on goal weight reduction (%) and goal BMI. In multivariate regression analysis, rating of work efficiency was effect on goal weight reduction (%). And ratings of physical and daily life comfort and suggestion by friends were effect on goal BMI.

Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrated that physical and daily life comfort, work efficiency,
and specific body measurement were effect on establishing a goal weight.
